In the Summer of 1987, I began my pursuit of an Associate of Paralegal Studies. I must admit, I left the program before completing the degree, but my love for the Law and our Constitution is firmly in place to this day. In the Spring of 1989, I accompanied my husband, (the reason I left the program) to Washington, D. C. for a family wedding. We did a little sightseeing while we were there. It was a much different atmosphere than it is today. There were no fences around buildings. You could stand in front of the White House and take a photo. You could also walk right up to the door of the Supreme Court. That was one of the things I wanted to do the most. I wanted to walk up those stairs, place my hands on the ornate, larger than life, wooden doors. I wanted to drink up the energy and electricity that is the heart of our nation. That is exactly what I did. This was when my now ex-husband took this photo. I have always looked at this remembrance of a wonderful day with pride. Today I look at this picture and I do not feel the happiness it brought me on previous occasions, I feel sadness.

Today, the Supreme Court rendered its most monumental ruling in years. For posterity, the date is June 24, 2022. They chose this date to roll back the history of women’s reproductive rights half a century. They reversed Roe v. Wade in their decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health
